Albarka FM has organized a one-day sensitization workshop on how to enhance media action for accountability and good governance for Journalists in Kwara state.
The one-day sensitization programme was organized in conjunction with Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative journalism and with support from the Macarthur Foundation.

The guest lecturer, Dr Sa’udat Sallah AbdulBaqi, a lecturer from the Mass Communication Department of the University of Ilorin, charged participants on the role of media in good governance, Principles of governance, significance of media monitoring, Transmission in media landscape, media management concern, classification of media and available source of information to the public.

“The media is in the centre of governance, if governance is about the people there is no how you can take the activities of the government to the people without the media. Given that central role, much is expected from media practitioners to make the system work creditably well. As we approach the 2023 elections I will implore my colleagues to go into the election with a consciousness that they represent the voice of the voiceless that they want to make invisible to be visible and to ensure that every sector in society is taken care of in terms of attention. They should eschew the reportage with the sentiment. They should allow the ethics of the profession to be guiding them”

Speaking on the significance of the event one of the participants, Olanrewaju Buhari, thanked the facilitators of the programme and promised to make proper use of the knowledge acquired for the development of society.

Two participants, a male and a female, were selected from both traditional and online media platforms in the state. In his remarks, the General Manager of Albarka 89.9 FM Ilorin, Dr Rasheed Adigun, who doubled as the coordinator of the programme told the participants that another thirty people will be selected for the training through special reports they will direct them to do and the lucky winners will be given special training on how to carry out an investigative report on good governance and accountability.
