Kano State government has ordered some contractors to resume construction work on the abandoned 5km road networks in Bebeji, Gwarzo, Gezawa, Dawakin Kudu, Kabo, and Albasu Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

This is after 16 days of Stallion Times investigation on some abandoned 5km roads in the state.

In the report, StallionTimes revealed an account of anguish and chronicled the suffering of communities, including commuters, commercial motorists, and People with Disabilities (PwDs) in 5 LGAs which include; Bunkure, D/Tofa, Kibiya, Rano, and Rimin gado.

The project was a joint venture between the state government and the 44 LGAs. The former is expected to contribute 10 percent of the total contract sum, while the latter is to offset the 90 percent.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Baffa Bichi who represented Governor Yusuf at the event disclosed that some of the contractors handling the road construction work have been remobilised to the site.He stated this on 13 September 2023 during the Mambayya House town hall meeting tagged ‘The first 100 Days of Kano State Government in Office: Achievements and Challenges’ of the administration of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Dr. Bichi said: “The contractors handling the road construction work have been remobilised by the state Ministry of Works and Housing to return to 23 out of the 44 LGAs to continue work on the 5km roads while work will soon commence on the rest of the 21 LGAs.”

The SSG assured that the road construction will be completed in 6 months.

On her part, Aisha Danlami, 19, an undergraduate student of Saadatu Rimi University of Education, from Tsakuwa town in Dakin Kudu is delighted by the recent development in her regular commute to school.
