Africa Centre for Development Journalism

Africa Centre for Development Journalism registered in 2021 focuses on promoting and supporting data, development and knowledge based journalism. Operating out of Lagos, the organisation is into journalism and media training; data based development publications, special news reports. Rotimi Sankore holds sway as the Executive Director and Editor in Chief. Having been selected as one of the media partners for the Collaborative Media Project, they will embark on a three-year project to provide capacity development for young media practitioners to strengthen media independence.

African Centre for Transparency

African Centre for Transparency (ACT) is a registered not-for-profit organisation with offices in Humble, Texas and Abuja, Nigeria with Agbo Osmund as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

With promotion of good governance at the centre of their focus, ACT has sealed a partnership with the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) for the next three years to engage reporters through town hall meetings, seminars and provide support for investigative reports. This is under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project.

ADC Communications

ADC Communications (AD4TVRadio as one of the 26 media outfits selected for the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project. Established by Jacob Alada, (Ph. D) the Abuja, Nigeria based media organisation will focus on reporting policy gaps and corruption in the education sector, especially at sub-national levels of Kwara State in line with the company’s policy of promoting accountability and transparency.

Clearview

Boost Communication Nigeria Limited (Clearview Television) will be receiving grants from the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) for the next three years to report issues in the mineral resources sector and also train journalists on how best to report stories similar stories.

Under the leadership of Sam Odion Bello, the Abuja based media organisation was founded in 2006.

Frontfoot Media Initiative

Frontfoot Media Initiative is into informative, engaging and inspiring style of journalism. Incorporated in 2020 by Emeka Izeze, the Lagos based news outlet joins 25 other news organisations as a founding member of our Collaborative Media Engagement for Development Inclusivity and Accountability Project. As a direct beneficiary of the project grant from the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) to be spread over a period of three years. Frontfoot equip journalists on how best to report state audit reports, women, youth, and the diaspora.

Fridabs Solacebase Communications

Fridab Solacebase is a Kano state-based media organisation incorporated in 2018 by Elijah Ojonicko Akoji as a Limited Liability company. They focus on accountability and good governance. Courtesy of the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project, Fridab Solacebase will work on data-driven investigations and advocacy in rural health accountability within Kano state.

Gender Strategy Advancement International

Gender Strategy Advancement International is a non-governmental organisation with advocacy, research, content development, media related interventions, opinion mounding and reorientation at the core of its operations. The organisation has teamed up with Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) to report gender issues and vulnerable groups its Collaborative Media project.

Yerwa Express

Maiduguri-based Yerwa Express News (Yerwa Express News Kanuri) is Limited Liability Company. Abdulhamid Al-Gazali is the Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of the organisation founded in 2016.

Thanks to Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), Yerwa Express will support journalists to report governance, politics and build their capacity to do data stories and fact checks. This will be under the Collaborative Media project.

Foreword Communications Limited

Foreword Communications Limited, publishers of National Point Newspaper and Candour magazine specialises in news, features and investigations, democratic development, community development amongst other issues. The company was registered as a Limited Liability Company in 2005 by seasoned and award winning journalist, Ibiba Don Pedro.

To improve the robustness of the civic space in the Niger Delta, Port Harcourt, Rivers state based National Point is promoting accountability and inclusive development in the region with the support of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) through its Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project.

Contest Communications Limited

Contest Communications Limited publisher of National Record is managed Iduh Lawrence Onah (Editor-in-Chief/Chief Executive Officer). The online platform centred on working class concerns was registered in 2019. As one of Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) partners under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability project, National Record is tracking and investigating child labour, sexual abuse and abuse of the rights of the marginalised groups by public and private entities. This is to improve accountability at sub-national levels and contribute to accountability in the private sector.

Penlight Centre for New Media Innovations

Penlight Centre for New Media Innovations is a non-profit media organisation registered in 2018 popularly known as Daily Nigerian. Jaafar Jaafar heads the investigative media outfit as its Editor-in-Chief.

With Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) has partnered with Daily Nigerian to step up professional news coverage, investigative reporting and advocacy for marginalised and minority groups. The organisation will train and build the capacity of reporters to carry out grassroots investigative reporting.

African Women in Media (AWiM)

African Women in Media started as a Facebook group in August 2016 to positively impact the way media functions in relation to African women with members from a diverse range of media backgrounds. AWiM transitioned to an international non-governmental organisation in 2019 and collaborates with a variety of partners to achieve its vision. In line with the mission of advocating for a just and inclusive society, we will be partnering with African Women in the Media (AWiM) will organise media training for journalists to report Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) courtesy of the collaboration Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ). This partnership is under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability project which will last for three years.

Africa Foundation for Young Media Professionals

Africa Foundation for Young Media Professionals is into media skills capacity development for young media professionals and media students across higher institutions. The Lagos state based establishment also create platforms for media profession debates, conference symposium, workshop and reward excellence of deserving young media professionals. As part of the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project, Africa Foundation for Young Media Professionals will embark on capacity development for young media practitioners to strengthen media independence. Yinka Olaito is the Executive Director.

Safer Media Initiative

Safer Media Initiative provides a strong advocacy for the independent media, empowering journalists to conduct their craft with up to date skills and relative safety. Established in 2017, the Abuja based media firm also champion ethical, data-driven and in-depth journalism that drives the vision of social justice and accountability in the defence of public interest. Peter Iorter is the Executive Director of Safer Media Initiative.

Safer Media will organise advocacy meetings and training to promote in-depth reporting of underreported issues, people, and places to promote multi-level intervention for media independence and government accountability. This is courtesy of Collaborative Media project powered by Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ).

WikkiTimes Media and Publishing Limited

WikkiTimes Media and Publishing Limited also known as Wikki Times was registered in 2018. The Bauchi State based online news platform is dedicated to investigative and data driven journalism as well as general news gathering and dissemination.

WikkiTimes will be empowering local independent news outlets in Bauchi State to hold public office holders accountable at grassroots levels as one of the 26 media organisations under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development Inclusivity and Accountability Project.

Xchange Hama Media Services

Located at 20, Tambari Housing Estate, Jos Road, Bauchi, Xchange Hama Media Services Limited registered on the 13th of November 2014 is a Limited Liability Company that specialises in General Media Services with Dr. Ibrahim Omar Disina as its Managing Director.

Xchange Hama will sensitise and mobilise for social services and justice as one of the 26 media organisations for the three years Collaborative Media Engagement for Development Inclusivity and Accountability Project funded by the MacArthur Foundation.

Media Rights Agenda

Established in 1997, Media Rights Agenda is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that operates out of Lagos, Nigeria. It has at its core the protection of freedom of expression, media freedom and media development which made them suitable for our Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project.

MRA will train journalists on the use of Freedom of Information act, champion media freedom and safety of journalists being funded by the MacArthur Foundation.

PRNigeria

Image Merchant Promotions Limited is a 2001 registered Limited Liability company based in Abuja with Yushau Shuaib as its Editor in Chief. It is a news agency with strategic communication, development journalism at its core.

Image Merchant Promotions Limited owner of PRNigeria has embarked on a three year sub-national investigative reporting on economic sustainability and security in partnership with Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism. This is under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project with support from MacArthur Foundation.

Afritel Multimedia Limited

Registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Abuja and based in Kwara state, Afritel Multimedia Limited is popularly known as Albarka 89.9 FM. The Limited Liability Company will enhance media action for good governance and accountability at the community levels through training of journalists, advocacy, publication of investigative stories, and radio programmes to drive discussion within the state.

This initiative will be supported by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) through its Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability project.

Foundation for Investigative Journalism and Social Justice

The Foundation for Investigative Journalism and Social Justice (FIJ Nigeria) through the tool of investigative journalism and public interest reporting promote social justice. FIJ was registered by ‘Fisayo Soyombo in 2020.

Thanks to the partnership with Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability project, FIJ will seek to improve public awareness and the ecosystem for transparency, accountability and good governance through investigative reports. This partnership runs for three years.

Neptune Network Nigeria Limited

Abuja-based Neptune Network Nigeria Limited is a Limited Liability Company given to social development. Also known as Neptune Prime, the organisation is tackling humanitarian issues for the development of the North East courtesy of the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project.

Put together by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), the three years project will focus on investigative reporting and advocacy for marginalised and minority groups amongst others.

Interactive Initiative for Social Impact

Dataphyte Nigeria Limited, publisher of Dataphyte is a media, research and data analytics organisation with the mission to deploy data tools and technology for socio-economic development of Nigeria. Dataphyte is the for-profit, research and development program of The Interactive Initiative for Social Impact born out of a need to fill the lacuna in data accessibility, especially in formats that support governance, policy analysis, and accountability work in Nigeria. They are one of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) partners on the Collaborative Media project.

Dataphyte will be promoting access to information by publishing data-driven investigative reports and championing social accountability for the socially secluded.

Stallion Times

Stallion Times Media Services publishes Stallion Times in their quest to put out high-quality news content and report stories/news that inform, educate, entertain, and hold leaders and institutions accountable while upholding the ethic of journalism to safeguard trust in news reportage.

The online news platform based in Kano which started out in 2020 joins 25 other media houses selected for the Collaborative Media Project by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ). Stallions Times will champion participatory governance and media rights with training sessions on ethics and codes of journalism, conflict reporting, budget monitoring, and the effective use of social media to source data.

International Centre for Development Reporting

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) will collaborate with International Centre for Development Reporting (ICDR) popularly known as Satellite Times is into investigative reporting, development reporting, media training, research and publishing.

It was registered in 2012 by Emmanuel Mayah (Executive Director) as a non-profit organisation. Under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability project of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), ICDR will execute investigative stories around maritime issues, free trade zones, oil and gas, tax justice and Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs).

Kanem Press

Kanem Press will look into media rights and ethics, digital skill advocacy and accountability. The Lagos state-based news platform project is in consonance with Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) multi-level intervention for media independence and government accountability.

This project tagged Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project seeks to improve public awareness and the ecosystem for transparency, accountability and good governance while holding the government accountable as stated in the Nigerian Constitution.

KIRWA Productions (Keeping It Real With Adeola)

Keeping it Real with Adeola (KIRWA) offers news and videos to expose the political, economic and social events plaguing Nigeria, Africa and the rest of the world. Adeola Fayehun is the producer and presenter of the Vlog. Kirwa will be partnering with Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ).  The organisation will carry out reports under the Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability Project to improve public awareness and the ecosystem for transparency and accountability at the sub-national level.
