The Executive Director, Media Career NG, Mr. Lekan Otufodurin has reeled out the need for journalists to hold strictly to the ethical provision in the course of carrying out their profession.
Otufodurin who was a former editor of The Nation Newspaper made this call while training young journalists as a facilitator in a media workshop organized by Africa Foundation For Young Media Professionals (AFYMP) in Lagos on Monday.
Speaking on the course “Community and Collaborative Journalism: How to build engaged and viral audiences/News Reporting: crafting better pitches, engaging audience, balancing the truth.”, He stressed the importance of considering the audience in information gathering, sourcing and dissemination especially in the 21st century age of digitalized media practice.
He added that the basis behind the introduction of community journalism is the crave of the people to get information and know what is happening in their community adding that they need answers to issues around them.
He described truth as the cornerstone of journalism and advised that journalists do adequate fact checking, research, verification of sources and avoid click bait and sensationalism of information. He narrated the improvement of Mass media practice which now give credence to audience participation and consideration in the practice.
Other facilitators at the media training are Taiwo Obe, Babajide Otitoju, and Suraj Olunifesi (Dr.).
