A media outlet, National Point Newspaper, has trained selected journalists and university students on inclusive and solution journalism in Yenagoa , Bayelsa State.
The training took place on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Ayalla Hotels, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The training was themed “Local Government Administration In The Niger Delta: Strengthening Accountability, Inclusive Development Through Investigations, Data And Solution Journalism.”
The training had professionals from different fields of expertise who urged the participants to be the watchdogs of the society in delivering public interest and justice.
The Managing Director of the National Point Newspaper, Miss Ibiba DonPedro, advised young journalists not to place priority on “brown envelopes” as it will hinder exclusive reporting.
She also encouraged journalists to avail themselves of trainings as trends of the media are changing.
Don Pedro urged collaboration amongst journalists as investigative journalism can be very daunting, adding that the journalists who tell the stories about the Niger Delta should focus more on solution journalism.
Another speaker, Prof Steve Wordu, spoke on Local Government Administration in the Niger Delta, urging younger journalists to embrace trainings as the older journalists are fading out and the future belongs to the upcoming journalists.
While Dr. Judex Okoro gave an insight on how the local government has failed in its services and in providing amenities to the citizens, he charged newsmen in the Niger Delta region to remain focused on investigating reporting and
solution journalism.
Some of the participants of the training expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to Ibiba DonPedro and her partner, the Editor-in-Chief, National Point Newspaper, Chief Constance Meju and other resource persons.
