Wole Soyinka Centre/Albarka FM holds one-day media round-table on 2023 election and role of media

On Monday, the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative journalism collaboration with Albarka 89.9 FM, Ganmo, Kwara State organised a one-day media round-table program on “2023 general election: Its Impact on Good Governance and Responsibility of The Media” with participants drawn from media organizations and practitioners across Kwara state.

The round-table program funded by the MacArthur Foundation was held at City-In-Hotel, G.R.A Ilorin, with media executives and journalists from conventional and new media in attendance.

The participants were engaged in educating citizens to make informed decisions during the forthcoming general election.

The resource person, Dr Ademola Bakare of the University of Ilorin, said “2023 election will be the first of its kind because it will be the first election under a new electoral act that is full of intricacies not yet well studied by many politicians and electorate.

“You have a vital role to play by embarking on electoral education to sensitize politicians and the electorate as we are approaching the 2023 general election.

“Electorate are expecting you to engage politicians, interviewing, assessing their manifestos and give your unbiased report that will guide them to make well-informed decisions during the election”

Dr Bakare, however, charged journalists to always get accurate information before going on air and be fair to all parties involved.
