A delegation from the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) visited the African Foundation for Young Media Professionals (AFYMP), a partner under its Collaborative Media Engagement for Development, Inclusivity and Accountability (CMEDIA), on Thursday 2 March 2023. WSCIJ shared thoughts with the partner on sustaining operations post-funding and how to extend the opportunity to young media professionals with disabilities.

The WSCIJ team led by Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director/CEO, had Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, Technical Adviser on the CMEDIA project; Samson Ademola, Programme and Research Officer; Emem Nssien, CMEDIA Finance Officer; Faedah Oyewole, Senior Finance Officer; and Chiamaka Onwuegbunam, Executive Assistant to the Executive Director/CEO.
Samson Ademola explained that the visit was to enable the WSCIJ team sit together with the AFYMP to better appreciate the nuances of the work they do under the CMEDIA project and share perspectives as the project moves to the second year.
Among other things, Yinka Olaito, Executive Director, AFYMP, stated that the CMEDIA project has helped them to build the capacity of the next generation of media professionals, afforded them the media visibility to expand Africa and has built their capacity and internal structure, especially in finance. He revealed that for the first time they have an annual audit report. He noted that AFYMP is getting calls from young persons with disabilities other than those connected with the limb which they have accommodated in their trainings and other activities.
